Softball field diagram — common questions

How far apart are the bases on a softball field?
Softball uses 60-foot base paths at every fastpitch level — Little League, high school (NFHS), NCAA, and USA Softball. The pitching distance is 43 feet for women's fastpitch and 40 feet for Little League. Our diagrams are drawn to those regulation proportions.
What is the rover position in softball?
The rover (also called short fielder) is the 10th defensive player used in slow-pitch softball. Most teams play them as a fourth outfielder in shallow center, though some rotate them behind second base. In Build Custom mode the rover is one of the optional positions you can toggle on, along with left-center and right-center for four-outfielder formations.
Is there a pitcher's mound on a softball field?
No. Softball pitchers work from a flat 16-foot-diameter circle — there is no raised mound at any level. That's why our softball diagrams show a plain circle where a baseball diagram would show a mound with a rubber.
Can I put my players' names on the diagram?
Yes — click Build Custom on either layout. You can toggle each position on or off, type a player's name next to any position, add a team logo, and pick a field color. The finished PDF builds in your browser and downloads instantly; nothing is uploaded to a server.
Do fastpitch and slow-pitch use the same field?
The diamond shape is the same, but the numbers differ: fastpitch plays 60-foot bases with 43-foot pitching (NFHS / NCAA / USA Softball), while slow-pitch typically uses 65-foot bases, a 50-foot pitching distance, and a 10th fielder. Our blank diagrams work for both — they're proportional layouts for coaching, not survey drawings.
